Artemus W. Ham Jr. - 1920 to 1991

Artemus W. Ham Jr. was a Las Vegas attorney whose legal career took root in the postwar growth of southern Nevada. After serving in the armed forces and completing his legal studies - earning his law degree at Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco - he joined his father, Artemus W. Ham Sr., in the Las Vegas law firm of Ham and Ham in 1948. He soon took over his father's practice, carrying forward a family name long associated with the Las Vegas legal community.

Beyond the practice of law, Mr. Ham later moved into real estate and became one of the most prominent benefactors of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He donated more than one million dollars to the university, including the gifts that made possible the Artemus Ham Concert Hall and the Alta Ham Fine Arts Building - both named, at his request, in honor of his late parents.

Artemus W. Ham Jr. died in 1991 at the age of 71. He is remembered as a dedicated member of the Nevada bar and as a lasting contributor to the cultural and educational life of Las Vegas.
