Byron Lee Bilyeu

Byron L. "Bill" Bilyeu was born on December 13, 1936, in Ozark, Missouri, and later graduated from Shasta High School in Redding, California. He completed a bachelor's degree in political science at the University of Nevada, Reno, in two years, and earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Southern California in 1971. He was admitted to the Nevada Bar in 1971.

In 1972, Bill moved to Elko, Nevada, where he served as a Deputy District Attorney for Elko and Eureka Counties. He went on to build a distinguished legal practice in Elko, first forming the law partnership of Evans & Bilyeu with Chach Evans, and later, following Evans's passing, the firm of Bilyeu & Matthews with Richard (Dick) Matthews.

Alongside his legal career, Bill was deeply engaged in Nevada public life. He represented Assembly District 25, covering Elko and Eureka Counties, serving two regular legislative sessions and one special session, and during his second term he became the first Republican Speaker of the Nevada Assembly in 14 years. He chaired five Republican State Conventions and served as Counsel to Republican National Committee Chairman Frank Fahrenkopf. Before his legal and political career, he had served in the United States Marine Corps, retiring as a Captain.
