Calvin Francis Gunn

Calvin Francis Gunn was born January 28, 1930, in Palo Alto, California. He graduated from Stanford University, earning his Doctor of Jurisprudence with a minor in engineering and music, and went on to practice law for 54 years.

Calvin began his legal career as a prosecuting attorney in Merced before establishing his own practice, first in Palo Alto and later in Woodside. Over the decades he represented many international clients from around the world, continually adapting to his clients' needs and to a changing profession. He loved solving difficult problems and drew on his knowledge, imagination, skills, and curiosity in service of those he represented. Beyond the law, he developed numerous projects across the Bay Area and Northern California, including apartment complexes and a ski resort near Tahoe.

Colleagues and friends remembered Calvin as intelligent, courageous, and ever-curious - a gifted pianist, public speaker, and intellectual, and a devoted family man. He was also an active citizen of the Woodside community, serving on the Planning Commission, the Mounted Patrol, and the Earthquake Committee. He died peacefully at Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City on August 6, 2007, at the age of 77.
