Carl F. Dodge - 1915-06-08 to 2006-07-29

Carl F. Dodge was a lifetime Nevada resident, born June 8, 1915, in Reno to Carlon F. and Buena Reed Dodge, and moved to Fallon at the age of five. He graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with a bachelor's degree in 1936, then attended Stanford Law School, graduating fourth in his class with a degree in law in 1939. He went on to practice as a lawyer and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Beyond the practice of law, Mr. Dodge was a businessman and rancher - the owner and operator of Dodge Island Ranch and the Valley Plaza Shopping Center in Fallon, and involved with his family's construction business, Dodge Construction Co. He served in the Nevada Legislature from 1958 to 1980, when he resigned to take a seat on the Nevada Gaming Commission, of which he was a member and chairman from 1980 to 1984. His public service also included roles as corporate director of Circus Circus Enterprises, member and chairman of the Nevada State Personnel Commission, member of the Special Committee on Taxation and Fiscal Affairs, member of the Governor's Commission on Fiscal Affairs of State and Local Governments, and chairman of the Nevada Commission on Ethics.

Mr. Dodge received an honorary Doctorate of Law degree from the University of Nevada, Reno and an honorary associate's degree from Western Nevada Community College. He was elected to the Business Leaders Hall of Fame and the Nevada Senate Hall of Fame, and received the Distinguished Nevadan Award from UNR. He was a Master Mason and a member of Churchill Lodge No. 26 for nearly 70 years. He died July 29, 2006, at the age of 91.
