Charles Michael McGee - June 11, 1945 to February 8, 2026

Charles "Chuck" Michael McGee was born on June 11, 1945, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of the Pacific in 1966 and earned his J.D. from the University of Denver's Sturm College of Law in 1969, later completing a Master's in Judicial Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno, in 1986. A Vietnam veteran, he served as Chief of Military Justice for the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam in 1970 and was awarded the Bronze Star for volunteering at firebases in I Corps.

McGee was admitted to the Nevada bar in 1969 and practiced as an attorney in Reno from 1970 to 1984. He served as a Master of the Second Judicial District Court before being elected to the bench in 1984, presiding over Department Two of the Second Judicial District Court's Family Division until 2005. During his tenure he twice held the position of Chief Judge of the Second Judicial District Court. Following his retirement in 2005, he continued in service as a Senior Judge in rural courts and in Las Vegas.

A leader in his field, McGee served as president of the Nevada District Judges Association and founded Washoe County's Family Drug Treatment Court. He chaired the Juvenile and Family Drug Committees for the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges and the National Association of Drug Court Professionals, and he published articles on family drug courts in the Juvenile and Family Law Journal. In recognition of his work, the Charles M. McGee Center, which housed the Children in Need of Supervision (CHINS) program, was named in his honor.
