Charles Waterman

Charles Waterman was a longtime Las Vegas attorney who practiced law in Nevada for more than 30 years. Born November 3, 1928, in Lawrence, Massachusetts, he earned his law degree from Suffolk University in 1955 before eventually settling in Nevada, where he built a career centered on criminal defense.

Over the course of his practice, Waterman handled a number of high profile cases. He defended Peggy Wham, who was convicted of arranging her husband's murder in the 1980s and later released by the state Pardons Board in 1998. More recently, he represented Daimon Hoyt, who was accused of trying to hire a hit man to target a district judge, a prosecutor, and a Las Vegas police detective. He was a member of Nevada Attorneys for Criminal Justice and of the Nevada bar.

Beyond the courtroom, Waterman was a prominent figure in Nevada politics, serving as chairman of the Clark County Democratic Party for more than 20 years. He was elected a delegate to the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston, where he served as a Kerry delegate. He died April 17, 2008, at the age of 79.
