In Memoriam

Cheryl L. Kosewicz - 1971-11-11 to 2007-07-27

Cheryl Lynn Kosewicz was born November 11, 1971, in Brewster, Washington, and graduated as valedictorian of Lake Roosevelt High School in Coulee Dam, Washington, in 1990. She went on to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she played for the UNLV Lady Rebels basketball team - a member of the Big West Conference title team - and graduated in 1994. In 2000, she earned her law degree from Lewis and Clark School of Law.

Cheryl devoted her legal career to public service as a prosecutor. She spent approximately six years with the Clark County District Attorney's office in Las Vegas, beginning on the general litigation team before becoming a special victims unit prosecutor in the juvenile division and later serving in the same role in the adult division. She subsequently relocated to Northern Nevada to work for the Washoe County District Attorney's office. Colleagues remembered her dedication to the victims of the crimes she prosecuted; Clark County District Attorney David Roger said, "She cared deeply for the victims of these crimes. She worked hard to obtain justice for them."

Beyond the courtroom, Cheryl was a lifelong athlete whose interests included triathlons, soccer, boxing, camping, biking and the rodeo. She competed in boxing at the International Police Olympics, where she defeated the defending champion. She passed away July 27, 2007, in Sparks, Nevada, at the age of 35.
