Chester Joseph Kafchinski Jr

Chester Joseph "Chet" Kafchinski was born on July 12, 1948, in Newark, New Jersey. He attended college at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., and earned his law degree in 1973 from St. John's in Brooklyn, New York, before relocating to Northern Nevada, where he practiced law for the rest of his life.

Chet began his Nevada legal career in 1978 at the Washoe County Public Defender's Office. In 1982 he partnered with Mike McDonald in the law firm of McDonald and Kafchinski, and he later served in the Washoe County District Attorney's Office, where he became a team chief under District Attorney Mills Lane.

In 1993, Chet returned to the Washoe County Public Defender's Office as a chief, and he continued practicing law in Winnemucca, Carson City, and the rural counties until his death on August 18, 2009, in Yerington, Nevada. He was survived by his three children, Michael, Lisa, and Steven Kafchinski.
