David G. Parraguirre - 1925-08-31 to 1998-12-09
David Gerald Parraguirre was a longtime Northern Nevada attorney and a member of one of the state's oldest families. Born August 31, 1925, on the family's sheep ranch in Sweetwater, an old Nevada town just east of the California state line, he was a native Nevadan. He attended the University of Nevada, Reno from 1944 to 1946 and graduated from the University of California at Berkeley, before earning his law degree from the University of Denver in 1954, where he had served as law school student body president in 1952.
In November 1956, the three Parraguirre brothers - David, Paul and Lorin - made headlines when they were admitted to the Nevada bar at the same time, each having attended UNR, graduated from Berkeley and earned law degrees from the University of Denver. David, then 31, took and passed the bar exam on the same date as his brothers.
Over his career David served as a Sparks assistant city attorney and a Washoe County deputy district attorney, and he went on to serve as Washoe County public defender from 1983 to 1991. He was the brother of former Nye County Judge Paul Parraguirre and the uncle of Las Vegas Municipal Judge Ron Parraguirre. David died December 9, 1998, at his home in Reno at the age of 72.
