David G. "Geno" Menchetti - 1944-11-01 to 2020-06-18
David G. "Geno" Menchetti was born in Pearl River, New York, on November 1, 1944, and passed away on June 18, 2020. After graduating from Cortland State Teachers College in 1966 and serving in the U.S. Air Force, he attended McGeorge School of Law, earning his J.D. in 1974. In 1972, he began working as a legal researcher in the Nevada Attorney General's office in Carson City while commuting to Sacramento to complete his law degree.
Geno rose to serve as Chief of the Criminal Division in the Nevada Attorney General's office, a role he held until 1979, when he opened his own law practice in Incline Village. He built his practice over the following decades before selling it in 2014 and continuing as of counsel to Hutchison and Steffen. A founding figure among Incline Village attorneys, he helped establish the Incline Village Bar Association and was instrumental in creating the Incline Village Crystal Bay Township Court, where he served as one of the first pro tem judges. He also served as legal counsel to the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District.
Beyond his legal career, Geno was a devoted community leader. He served on the Board of Directors and as president of the Incline Village Crystal Bay Chamber of Commerce, and as chairman of the Incline Village Crystal Bay Visitors and Convention Bureau, through which he became involved with the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival, serving as its chairman and later chair emeritus and founding the D. G. Menchetti Young Shakespeare Program. A charter member and past president of both the Incline Village Rotary Club and the Tahoe-Incline Rotary Club, he established the enduring Geno Fund to help families in need. He was remembered as an icon of his community, known for his infectious smile, quick wit, and generous charm.
