Dennis M. Sabbath

Dennis M. Sabbath was a Las Vegas attorney and community leader whose legal career was rooted in public-interest and labor work. Born July 17, 1943, in New York City, he grew up in Washington, D.C., studied at the University of Maryland, and earned his law degree at the University of Chicago Law School. In 1969 he moved to Kodiak, Alaska, where he provided legal services - including marriages, guardianships, and adoptions - through Legal Aid and the Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) program.

After about two years in Alaska, Dennis and his family settled in Las Vegas, where he built a practice centered on representing working people. Over the course of his career he served as counsel to the Culinary Workers Union and, later, to the Musicians Union and the Steelworkers Union, becoming a familiar advocate for organized labor in Southern Nevada.

Beyond his legal work, he was deeply engaged in civic and community life. A lifelong Democrat, he ran for the Nevada State Senate in District 5 in 1986. He was active in the Jewish community as a member of the Jewish Federation Young Leadership group and served as chairman of the board of the Hebrew Academy. Dennis M. Sabbath died in 2000.
