Donald W. Hemingway

Donald W. Hemingway was born on March 13, 1919, in Salt Lake City and grew up in Ely, Nevada, where he graduated from White Pine High School. He went on to graduate from Brigham Young University and earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Southern California. Admitted to the Nevada bar at the close of 1949, he built a legal career as an attorney who practiced law in both Nevada and Utah.

His legal work extended into a lengthy military career. Having served as a Private in the U.S. Army during World War II, he later rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force, spending many years in the office of the Staff Judge Advocate. This service joined his civilian practice with the work of a military lawyer over the course of his professional life.

Beyond the practice of law, Hemingway was a teacher, musician, and author. He taught music at White Pine High School and religion at BYU Salt Lake and BYU Hawaii, and he wrote 14 books over his lifetime. He died on June 1, 2011.
