Edward G. Marshall

Edward G. "Ted" Marshall was born October 13, 1930, in Salt Lake City, the son of Judge George E. Marshall, and was raised in Las Vegas, graduating from Las Vegas High School in 1948. He completed his legal education and began practicing law in Nevada in 1958, embarking on a career that would make him one of the most vigorous and memorable figures of early Las Vegas jurisprudence. He served his country as well as his profession, commissioned as an infantry officer in the U.S. Army and later transferring to the U.S. Marine Corps, retiring as a major in the Marine Corps Reserve.

Elected Clark County District Attorney in 1962, Marshall served a four-year term marked by fearless and forceful advocacy. During those years he personally prosecuted ten homicide cases and pressed grand jury investigations of public officials, earning a reputation as a fiery pillar of the young city's legal community. He was known for standing firm on principle, once spending hours in jail in 1964 rather than pay a contempt fine, and for confronting the most powerful figures of the day in the pursuit of what he believed the law required. He later served as a Municipal Court judge before entering private practice.

An active member of the State Bar of Nevada for 54 years, Marshall left a lasting mark on the courts and prosecutors of Clark County. He was preceded and followed by family in the law, and is remembered as a determined advocate whose career spanned the formative decades of Las Vegas. He died April 13, 2013, at the age of 82.
