Emile Pierre Gezelin

Emile Pierre Gezelin, known as Pierre, was a native Nevadan born in Ely on April 11, 1942, and raised in Reno. He graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1964, where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, and went on to attend the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, graduating in 1971.

After passing the Nevada Bar, Pierre served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the District of Nevada from 1971 to 1977. He then entered private practice with his brother, John, continuing until 1991. He spent the final 26 years of his career as a Deputy Attorney General with the Nevada Department of Transportation, commuting to Carson City and continuing to work even while battling cancer.

Remembered by colleagues for his incredible work ethic, sense of humor, and endearing laugh, Pierre was a dedicated attorney whose career spanned more than four decades of public and private service in Nevada. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on March 19, 2017.
