In Memoriam

Gary L. Redmon - March 9, 1935 to August 26, 2000

Gary L. Redmon was raised in Oskaloosa, Iowa, and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Before entering the law, he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad and earned an accounting degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 1969. He went on to complete his law degree at the University of San Diego, and began his legal career in Clark County as a deputy district attorney.

Following his time in the district attorney's office, Redmon spent more than 20 years in private practice as a criminal and family law attorney in Las Vegas. He was elected to the bench and took his seat at Family Court in January 1997, and in November 1998 he was elected to a newly created civil and criminal district judgeship in the Eighth Judicial District Court. Among the matters he handled as a district judge was the widely followed palimony suit brought by Sandy Murphy against the estate of Ted Binion.

Colleagues remembered Redmon as a hard-working, dedicated, and fair jurist who was an excellent listener, praised by fellow attorneys as an outstanding judge and an even better person. Having received a heart transplant, he became a tireless advocate for organ donation, urging jurors after his trials to consider becoming donors. He is survived by his wife, Betty, and their daughter.
