George Francis Ogilvie - 1929-06-14 to 2006-06-16

George F. Ogilvie was a lifelong Nevadan, born June 14, 1929, in Elko into three generations of Elko County ranchers. He was raised on the Ogilvie Ranch at South Fork, where he spent his youth working as a ranch hand, and graduated from Elko High School in 1947. He obtained his undergraduate degree in geology from Northwestern University in Chicago, and went on to earn his law degree from Northwestern, where he served as editor of the Northwestern Law Review.

In 1959, George moved his family to Las Vegas, where he spent the rest of his life and built a career in public service. Over the course of his professional life he held several positions with municipalities and government agencies, including city attorney of North Las Vegas, city attorney of Las Vegas, county counsel, and county manager. In 1989, after serving as city attorney of Las Vegas for many years, he retired from public service.

Following his retirement from public service, George concluded his legal career as of counsel to Gordon and Silver, Ltd. He passed away peacefully on June 16, 2006, at the age of 77, remembered as a devoted Nevadan whose decades of legal work served the communities of southern Nevada.
