George M. Dickerson

George M. Dickerson was a lifelong Nevada attorney whose career came to embody honesty and integrity in the legal profession. Born on February 12, 1923, in San Francisco, he graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno, and earned his law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. He passed the Nevada bar examination in 1949 and was admitted to practice, beginning a legal career in Las Vegas that would span more than half a century.

Dickerson began as a deputy district attorney in Clark County at a time when the office consisted of only the district attorney and two deputies. In 1954 he was elected Clark County District Attorney, serving a four-year term devoted to raising the standards of the office before entering private practice. He remained a trial lawyer for his entire career, later founding his own firm in 1986 with his son Bob Dickerson, and continued practicing until he retired at the age of 75.

Beyond his practice, Dickerson gave extensive service to the profession and the state. He was appointed chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission in 1966 and served as president of the State Bar of Nevada from 1973 to 1974. He also served for two decades as attorney for the Clark County Convention Authority. Widely respected and known as "Gentleman George," he was remembered for his scrupulous integrity and thorough preparation as a trial lawyer. He died on February 15, 2019, at the age of 96.
