George W. Echan Jr.

George W. Echan, Jr. earned his undergraduate degree with honors from Pomona College and went on to receive his law degree with honors from the UCLA School of Law. Early in his career he served as the youngest president ever of the San Fernando Valley Bar Association in California, an early mark of the professional standing he would carry throughout his life.

After relocating to the South Lake Tahoe area, George built a distinguished law career that spanned more than 30 years. Colleagues remembered him as a brilliant attorney known for his unselfish mentorship and sharp wit, qualities that made a lasting impression on the associates and partners who worked alongside him. He remained an active member of the state bar community throughout his career.

Beyond his practice, George was deeply dedicated to public service. He served as President of the Tahoe Douglas Chamber of Commerce, as an elected member of the Douglas County School Board, and as an appointed member of the Douglas County Planning Commission. He was instrumental in the formation of the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority, serving as its first Chairman, and was a longtime, active member of the Tahoe Douglas Rotary. George W. Echan, Jr. died on May 8, 2018, at the age of 72.
