Gregory J. Chachas

Gregory John Chachas was born on July 5, 1932, in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and spent his early years in Ely, Nevada, where he attended elementary school and graduated from White Pine High School in 1948. After being accepted to Harvard University and serving in the military during the Korean conflict, he completed his baccalaureate degree in economics at Harvard. He went on to earn his juris doctorate at the University of Utah College of Law.

Mr. Chachas built his legal career in Nevada, practicing law in Ely and serving as the Ely City Attorney. He later served as District Attorney for Eureka County and as District Attorney for White Pine County, dedicating much of his professional life to public legal service in the rural communities of eastern Nevada.

Beyond his legal practice, Mr. Chachas was an entrepreneur who owned and operated several local businesses, and in his later years he devoted himself to mineral exploration and development, acquiring mining properties in Nevada and Idaho. He passed away in April 2019 at the age of 86.
