H. Leon Simon - 1938-03-21 to 2015-01-06
H. Leon Simon, born March 21, 1938, in Illinois, earned his law degree from the University of Illinois in 1968 and went on to a long career in Nevada law. He began as a public defender and served as a Juvenile Courts Referee before first joining the Clark County District Attorney's office in 1972.
After seven years with the District Attorney's office, Simon moved on to the Nevada Attorney General's office and later entered private practice. His most recent stint as a prosecutor began in 1998, when he returned to the District Attorney's office and spent much of his time in the criminal appeals unit. Colleagues, including District Attorney Steve Wolfson - who knew Simon for roughly 30 years - worked cases alongside him from both the prosecution and defense.
A longtime Las Vegas prosecutor, Simon handled the 2013 post-conviction hearings in the O.J. Simpson armed robbery case, in which District Judge Linda Bell denied Simpson a new trial. He passed away January 6, 2015, at the age of 76.
