James Leonard Brown

James Leonard Brown was a trial attorney whose legal career spanned more than 56 years. He earned a degree in Business Administration and Accounting, graduating with distinction from the University of Missouri at Kansas City in 1963, and went on to receive his J.D. from the University of Southern California Law School in June 1967. He was admitted to the California Bar in December 1967 and to the Nevada Bar in October 1989, practicing across both states over the course of his career.

Brown concentrated his practice in general civil and commercial litigation, including employment discrimination, labor law, insurance coverage disputes, real estate, injury, and wrongful death claims. Beyond the state courts of California and Nevada, he was admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. District Courts for the Central, Northern, and Southern Districts of California and the District of Nevada. He tried numerous cases to verdict or judgment on behalf of plaintiffs and defendants alike, handled creditors' rights matters for the Resolution Trust Corporation and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, obtained a $6 million recovery for the RTC noted in the December 1994 issue of Trial Digest, and took part in the $1.8 billion Executive Life Insurance Company receivership litigation.

Brown was certified in Civil Trial Law by the National Board of Trial Advocacy beginning in October 1993. He belonged to the Las Vegas chapter of the National Bar Association, the Nevada Trial Lawyers Association, and the American Trial Lawyers Association, and he was among the small fraction of attorneys selected for membership in the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, a group limited to lawyers who have secured million and multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements.
