Janson Frank Stewart - October 24, 1935 to November 5, 2019
Janson Frank Stewart was born on October 24, 1935 in Las Vegas, Nevada, where his father worked on Hoover Dam, the railroad, and the old Ice House. A native son of the city, he went on to build a long career in the law and in public service in southern Nevada.
After a period in private practice, Jan spent eleven years with the Las Vegas District Attorney's Office before joining the Clark County District Attorney's Office, where he served as Chief Deputy of the Civil Division until his retirement in 2003. During his career he also spent three to four years with the Clark County Risk Management department, where he established a self-funded insurance program credited with saving the county millions of dollars over the years.
In the early 1980s, Jan was elected State Assemblyman for the 14th district in Las Vegas and was re-elected to two additional terms, serving as Chairperson of the Judiciary Committee. He passed away on November 5, 2019 in Las Vegas at the age of 84, remembered for a lifetime of dedicated service to his community and to the practice of law in Nevada.
