Joan Evangeline Reid

Joan Evangeline Reid was born April 22, 1932, in Iron River, Michigan, to August W. and Evangeline (Brazeau) Rogers. She earned an Associate of Arts in Commerce from San Jose State College in 1951. In 1985, she enrolled in the evening program at McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, balancing her studies with work at the securities brokerage firm she had built. She earned her Juris Doctor in 1989 and practiced law until 2012.

Joan's legal career capped decades of professional accomplishment in finance and business. In 1960, she and her husband, Belmont M. Reid, founded Belmont Reid & Co., Inc., a securities broker/dealer firm. She earned registrations with the Securities and Exchange Commission and the National Association of Securities Dealers (now FINRA), becoming a Registered Financial Principal and Representative, and later obtained licenses as a Life Insurance and Variable Annuity Agent and a Real Estate Agent. By 1977, when the couple sold the firm and moved from Saratoga, California, to Carson City, Nevada, the company had five subsidiaries, multiple California branch offices, and licenses in four other states. In 1980, they established JOBEL Financial, Inc., which they operated until 2012.

Carson City was truly home, and Joan immersed herself in community life. She served as Past-President of Soroptimist International of Carson City and The Leisure Hour Club, and held roles as Treasurer and Secretary of the Nevada Republican Women. She served in various capacities for the Carson City Republican Women's Club and the Carson City Republican Central Committee from 1978 to 2022, and supported Barbara Vucanovich's first congressional campaign as County Chairman. A member of the Navy League, she was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow by the Carson City Rotary Club.
