In Memoriam

John C. Renshaw

John C. Renshaw was born in Chicago, Illinois, and his family later moved to Orange County, California, after World War II. He earned his undergraduate degree from Stanford University in 1957 and his law degree from the University of California, Berkeley's Boalt Hall in 1961. He was admitted to practice law in California in 1962 and in Nevada in 1964, and he was also admitted before the United States Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the U.S. District Courts for the District of Nevada and the Northern District of California.

In 1964, John joined the Reno law firm of Vargas, Bartlett and Dixon, becoming a partner in 1967. Specializing in business litigation, he built a reputation as an exceptionally smart and effective litigator. He remained with the firm - later Vargas and Bartlett - until 1994, when he became a founding partner of the Las Vegas firm of Kummer, Kaempfer, Bonner and Renshaw. Over a career spanning more than fifty years, he represented clients throughout Nevada and California.

John's work earned wide recognition within the profession. He was voted one of the 'Best Lawyers in America' in Business Litigation from 1989 to 2006, held a Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent rating throughout his career, and was a longtime member of the American Inns of Court, serving as President of the Master Emeritus of the Bench in 1990-1991. He passed away on April 21, 2022, at the age of 86.
