John Roderick S McCormick

John Roderick Sim McCormick - known to many as Rod - was born on July 6, 1944, in Reno, Nevada. He attended Hastings School of Law (now UC Law San Francisco), where his studies were interrupted after two years when he was drafted into the United States Army and served in Vietnam. Following his military service, he completed his law degree, was admitted to the Nevada Bar, and began practicing law in Fallon in November 1971.

Over a legal career spanning some 40 years, McCormick held a wide range of public and private roles in Nevada. He served as a public defender, as Churchill County District Attorney, and as an Assistant City Attorney, and he maintained a general practice, working alongside his law partner Mike Mackedon. His practice took him before courts throughout the state.

McCormick appeared in more than 35 courts at all levels across Nevada, including the Nevada Supreme Court, the Federal District Court for Nevada, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. He died at his home on January 19, 2025.
