John S. McGimsey - 1942-02-15 to 2013-09-09

John Scott McGimsey was born February 15, 1942, in Los Angeles, California, and grew up to become a longtime public servant in the Nevada legal community. He graduated from Las Vegas High School in 1960, earned his degree at the University of Nevada, Reno, and completed his legal education at the University of Arizona Law School in 1971. That same year he was admitted to the State Bar of Nevada, beginning a career that would span more than three decades of practice in the state.

Mr. McGimsey began his career in the private practice of law in Las Vegas, where he worked for approximately four years. In 1976 he was appointed Lincoln County District Attorney and moved to Pioche, Nevada, serving in that role through 1982. In January 1983 he relocated to Elko, Nevada, where he took a position as an Assistant District Attorney and dedicated the remainder of his legal career to public prosecution.

He rose to the position of Chief Deputy District Attorney before retiring in October 2001. Mr. McGimsey passed away on September 9, 2013, at his home in Elko, Nevada, at the age of 71. He was remembered by his mother, Margaret McGimsey, and his three brothers, William, Jerry, and Bruce McGimsey.
