John W. Diehl

John W. "Jack" Diehl was a Nevada attorney whose legal career spanned nearly four decades in Fallon and across the state. Born June 9, 1922, in San Jose, California, he came to Nevada as a young child and grew up in Winnemucca and Reno. He graduated from the University of Nevada in 1947 and earned his law degree from the University of California Hastings College of the Law in 1950, having also served in the U.S. Army during World War II, deploying to southern France and discharging as a staff sergeant.

Diehl established his law practice in Fallon in 1952, becoming a founding partner in the firm that grew into Diehl, Recanzone and Evans. He served the city of Fallon as city attorney and later as assistant city attorney for many years, and held the office of Churchill County district attorney in the mid-1950s. His prominence in the profession extended statewide - he served as a member of the Nevada State Gaming Commission and was president of the Nevada State Bar Association in 1968.

Recognized among the leaders of the Nevada bar, Diehl was a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, a distinction reserved for accomplished trial attorneys. He remained in practice into the late 1980s. He died at his home on May 28, 1997, at the age of 74.
