Kent Lee Ivey was born on October 31, 1960, in San Bernardino, California, and grew up in Rialto. He graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1978, where he served as senior class Student Body President, and went on to earn his undergraduate degree from UCLA in 1982, where he was an Airborne Qualified Marine Option NROTC and a member of the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity. He received his JD from Pepperdine Law School in 1985.
Mr. Ivey was admitted to the California bar in 1987 and began his law career in Century City, California. After relocating to Henderson, Nevada, he became a Nevada attorney in 2002 and established his practice there that same year.
Beyond his legal work, Mr. Ivey was a dedicated amateur athlete who swam and competed with the Las Vegas Masters swim club and annually swam the 2.4-mile leg of the Silver Man Triathlon, and was an avid cyclist. In November 2012 he campaigned for the Democratic nomination for the Nevada State Assembly, District 20, taking particular joy in walking the district door-to-door to meet voters. Kent L. Ivey died suddenly at home on July 21, 2013, at the age of 52.
