Louis Mead Dixon

Louis Mead Dixon was a Reno attorney whose career became closely tied to the growth of legal casino gaming in Nevada. He began practicing law in Reno in 1950, and from 1957 onward he served as the principal legal advisor to William F. Harrah and his casino enterprises. His legal work spanned three of the state's major gaming centers - Reno, Lake Tahoe, and Las Vegas - placing him at the center of the industry's development during a period of rapid expansion.

By the late 1960s, Dixon held board positions at three major casinos - Harrah's, the Showboat, and the Tropicana. He played a significant role in orchestrating the 1980 merger between Harrah's and Holiday Inns, Inc., a transaction that carried both companies into the Atlantic City market. Following William F. Harrah's death, Dixon served as executor of the Harrah estate, a role reflected in subsequent federal court proceedings concerning the estate.

His recollections of this era were preserved in an oral history, 'Playing the Cards that Are Dealt: Mead Dixon, the Law and Casino Gaming,' recorded in 1992 through the University of Nevada Oral History Program. Louis Mead Dixon died on January 12, 1993, in Reno, Nevada.
