Marquis Carl Landrum

Marquis Carl Landrum was born June 6, 1939, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, and grew up in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, in a family long established in community banking. He graduated first in his class from Hobbs High School in Hobbs, New Mexico, in 1957 and went on to Yale University, where he received a B.A. in English in 1961 and played collegiate basketball. He served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1964, with active duty as a First Lieutenant in Munich, Germany, and afterward studied at Harvard Law School, earning his Juris Doctorate in 1967.

Mr. Landrum began his legal career in 1967 at the Reno, Nevada, law firm of Bargas, Bartlett & Dixon. A year later he moved to New York to practice corporate law with Jacobs, Persinger & Parker. In 1969 he relocated to Columbia, Missouri, to help run First National Bank and Trust Company, which his father had purchased in 1964.

He considered banking his main business and life's work, carrying forward a family enterprise founded by his grandfather in 1909. As the third generation in the business, he held primary responsibility for the enterprise for several decades and took majority ownership in 1994, guiding its growth from roots in Mountain View, Missouri, and Tishomingo, Oklahoma, into Landmark Bank, with 41 locations across three states. A devoted advocate of hometown banking, he was also a noted patron of music and the arts, assembling one of the finest private collections of contemporary ceramics, glass, and wood, and supporting cultural institutions in the communities his banks served.
