Mary E. Boetsch

Mary Eileen Boetsch was a tour de force in the Nevada legal community for almost forty years. Born January 24, 1951, in Crystal Lake, Illinois, she attended the University of Illinois and earned her law degree from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She settled in Reno, where she clerked for the Washoe County District Attorney's office beginning in March 1980 until she was admitted to the Nevada Bar in September 1980.

She served as a prosecutor in the Washoe County District Attorney's office from 1980 to 1985, working under Cal Dunlap and Mills Lane. In October 1985 she entered private practice with fellow former prosecutor Patrick Mooney, and over more than three decades the two represented well over 7,000 clients. In January 1995 Mooney & Boetsch joined Sinai & Schroeder, eventually forming Sinai, Schroeder, Mooney, Boetsch, Bradley & Pace, where she remained a partner at the time of her death. She was admitted to practice in all courts of the State of Nevada, as well as the United States District Court for the District of Nevada, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of the United States.

Ms. Boetsch served Northern Nevada in many capacities, including as a Special Prosecutor for the City of Reno and the Washoe County District Attorney's offices, as Prosecutor for the Commission on Judicial Ethics, as a pro tem judge in both the Reno Justice and Municipal Courts, and as a Court Master in the Family Division of the Second Judicial District Court. She chaired Nevada's Commission on Ethics from 1996 to 1999, served as President of the Washoe County Bar Association in 1997-1998, and was Master Emeritus and a Past President of the Inns of Court. She died June 19, 2017, in Reno, Nevada.
