Melvin Reed Whipple

Melvin Reed Whipple was a Las Vegas native who devoted much of his professional life to the practice of law in southern Nevada. A graduate of Las Vegas High School in 1945, he was drafted into the United States Army and served from 1945 to 1947. Following his military service, he attended Brigham Young University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1950.

In 1963, Melvin moved his family to Salt Lake City so he could attend law school at the University of Utah. He completed his studies and graduated with a law degree in 1966, and the family then returned to Las Vegas, where he began his legal career. He practiced law in the community for many years, serving as a deputy district attorney, before retiring from the profession in 1991.

Dedicated to both his work and his faith, Melvin was remembered as an inspiration to his family and to those who knew him. He was 94 years old at the time of his passing.
