Nancy Theresa Lord - 1952-02-08 to 2022-02-14

Nancy Theresa Lord held earned doctorates in both medicine and law, receiving her M.D. from the University of Maryland and her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. Combining her scientific training with her legal expertise, she built a career that spanned pharmaceutical development, medical malpractice, and toxicology. Until 1983 she was employed by Abbott Laboratories, where she authored the successful new drug application for the benzodiazepine hypnotic ProSom. After leaving Abbott she worked as an independent consultant, and drawing on her dual background she carried out patent work around the world, becoming fluent in Japanese in the process.

Admitted to the State Bar of Nevada in 1998, Lord practiced in Pahrump, in Nye County. She was an active participant in Nevada public life, campaigning in 2010 for District Attorney of Nye County and later seeking a seat on the Fifth Judicial District Court. She continued to run her legal and consulting practice into the final days of her life.

Beyond Nevada, Lord was a nationally known figure who served in leadership roles with the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) and the Fully Informed Jury Association, and who was active in civic and political life for decades. She died on February 14, 2022, in Show Low, Arizona.
