Patricia (Pat) FitzGerald Winnie was born in the spring of 1949. She graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1977 and earned her law degree from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 1980. Upon graduation from law school, she served as a law clerk for Nevada Supreme Court Chief Justice Gunderson.

Following her clerkship, Pat practiced in corporate settings, but she found her true calling in serving others through her private law practice. Among the causes closest to her, she aided families with adoptions, waiving her attorney fees to help them. She pursued excellence in her work and was known for always keeping her word.

Beyond her legal career, Pat was deeply devoted to her community and to helping the vulnerable and less fortunate. She was one of the founding directors of S.A.F.E. and Reno's Step2, and she served as past president of Soroptimist of Reno, Reno Toastmistress, and the Reno Rose Society. She lived a life that enriched the lives of others and she was greatly loved.
