Peter Ira Alpert was born in Brooklyn, New York, on May 13, 1938. He earned a bachelor's degree from Pace College in 1961, became a certified public accountant in 1964, and received his law degree from NYU Law School in 1965. He began his legal career practicing tax law in New York City before relocating to Colorado, where in 1983 he was appointed by the Governor of Colorado as a District Court Judge of the 13th Judicial District.
Peter left the bench in 1988 and moved to Las Vegas, where he served as Chief Legal Counsel at the Dunes Hotel. He went on to become Vice President and General Counsel at the Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino, and later opened his own private law practice in Las Vegas. In 2000, he became Chief Executive Officer and General Counsel for the Clark County, Nevada, Teachers Health Trust, a role he held until his retirement in 2016.
Following his retirement, Peter turned to writing and authored three novels. He died peacefully at his home in Las Vegas, surrounded by family, on May 6, 2022, and is survived by his wife, Susan, their children, and grandchildren.
