In Memoriam

Randall Hardy Pike

Randall Hardy Pike was born in Salt Lake City and raised in Las Vegas, where he graduated from Valley High School in 1973. He went on to attend Brigham Young University and earned his law degree from Pepperdine University School of Law, following in the footsteps of his father in choosing a career in the law.

After law school, Mr. Pike clerked on the Nevada Supreme Court for Justice Noel Manoukian before beginning a legal career in Las Vegas that spanned nearly 40 years. Over the course of that career he served in multiple roles - as a prosecutor, a criminal defense attorney, and a public defender. He concluded his career as the Assistant Department Head to the Special Public Defender for Clark County, where he focused on defending those accused of murder. He was known for weaving Shakespeare into his legal arguments and for the empathy he brought to capital cases, interviewing clients' families as he worked to spare defendants from death sentences.

Mr. Pike also sought public office, running for Justice of the Peace for Department 2 of the North Las Vegas Justice Court and for District Court Judge in the Family Division of the Eighth Judicial District Court. He passed away unexpectedly on September 27, 2022, at the age of 67, remembered by those who knew him for his zest for life, his care for others, and his sense of adventure.
