In Memoriam

Robert David Tarte - April 6, 1939 to September 29, 2023

Robert David "Bob" Tarte was born April 6, 1939, in Flint, Michigan, and earned a PhD in experimental psychology from the University of Michigan in 1964. He built a distinguished first career in academia, serving for fifteen years as a professor of psychology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he also chaired the Psychology Department and served as President of the Rocky Mountain Psychological Association.

Mid-career, Bob turned to the law, attending UCLA Law School and receiving his Juris Doctorate in 1985. He practiced law in Los Angeles before returning to Las Vegas, where he joined the firm Brown Busby Chrisman and Thomas. Admitted to the State Bar of Nevada on May 31, 1994, he brought to his legal work the same rigor and intellect that had marked his years in the classroom.

After retiring from the practice of law at age 65, Bob continued to serve the profession as an arbitrator for a further ten years before fully retiring at 76. He passed away on September 29, 2023, at the age of 84, remembered for a life of scholarship and service across two demanding professions.
