Robert Edwin Nelson-Kortland

Robert Edwin Nelson-Kortland was born July 24, 1939, in Valley City, North Dakota. After completing law school, he joined the United States Air Force, where he served six years in the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps, spending much of that time stationed in Europe.

He began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney before moving into private practice. Admitted to the Nevada bar in 1972, he went on to practice law in Reno for 28 years, building a long career in Northern Nevada before relocating to the Las Vegas area. In Las Vegas he served as a part-time judge and remained active in the Senior Citizens Legal Service, continuing to put his legal training in service of others.

Beyond his legal work, he devoted himself to community and civic life, serving with the CCBA, the SNDVTF, the Jayson Foundation, the NNTA Hall of Fame, the Junior Tennis Council of the USTA, and other non-profit organizations. He passed away February 23, 2010, at the age of 70.
