Robert L. Schouweiler - 1927-04-05 to 2011-10-21

Robert L. Schouweiler was a graduate of Pomona College in Claremont, California, and the University of San Francisco Law School. He served as a commissioned officer in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean conflict before building his legal career in Nevada. In Reno he practiced law alongside his brother, Bart Schouweiler, concentrating his work in estate and probate law.

Alongside his practice, Schouweiler took an active role in public life. Elected as a Republican to the Nevada State Assembly in 1958, he represented Reno and North Lake Tahoe and served two terms in the Legislature. He remained engaged in professional, charitable, and political organizations throughout his career.

In October 1981, Governor Robert List appointed Schouweiler to the Second Judicial District Court, where he became the first judge to serve in Department 9. He remained on the bench for nine years, through January 1991. Following his judicial service, he continued in the law as a hearing officer for Nevada worker's compensation and employment cases before retiring to the California coast.
