Robert Lamson Crowell

Robert Lamson "Bob" Crowell was born November 28, 1945, in Tonopah, Nevada, and moved to Carson City in 1955. He earned an undergraduate degree in economics from Stanford University in 1967 and a Juris Doctor from Hastings College of the Law in 1973. A Vietnam War veteran, he retired from the United States Navy as a captain. He was admitted to the State Bar of Nevada in 1973 and began his legal career in Carson City at the firm founded by his father.

Crowell practiced as both an attorney and lobbyist, focusing on government relations and legislative affairs, administrative and regulatory matters, public utilities, energy, water and transportation law, and election and initiative petition law. In 2006, he merged his firm with Las Vegas attorney Chris Kaempfer to form Kaempfer Crowell, broadening the practice statewide, and he later retired as a partner. He was admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for Nevada and Arizona, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, the U.S. Court of Claims, and the U.S. Supreme Court.

A past president of the State Bar of Nevada, Crowell served seven years on its Board of Governors and chaired the Nevada Mandatory Continuing Legal Education Board. He received the State Bar of Nevada Presidential Award, recognizing conduct, honesty and integrity reflecting the highest standards of the profession, and was named to the Nevada Lobbyist Hall of Fame in 2007. He was listed in Best Lawyers in America for Government Relations and Energy Law and in the Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers. Beyond his legal work, he served on the Carson City school board, chaired the Colorado River Commission of Nevada, and was elected mayor of Carson City in 2008, a post he held across three terms until his death on September 12, 2020, at age 74.
