Robert "Bob" Yeargin - 1948 to July 9, 2024
Robert "Bob" Yeargin was educated at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky, and earned his law degree at the Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C. His legal career began in Nevada, where he served in the Las Vegas City Attorney's office.
In 1988 he moved to San Francisco to serve as a staff attorney for the Immigration and Naturalization Service. He devoted the balance of his career to immigration law, and in 2002 he was appointed an Immigration Judge, a role in which colleagues and those who appeared before him remembered his wisdom, thoughtfulness, and fairness.
Soft spoken, kind, and endlessly curious, Bob remained active well into retirement - studying Mandarin for more than twenty years, translating legal texts, giving walking tours through San Francisco City Guides, and supporting the city's heritage, symphony, and opera. He was remembered by friends and colleagues as a true gentleman.
