Roger D. Armstrong

Roger D. Armstrong was born in Glendale, California, in 1954 and was raised in June Lake, California, before moving to Las Vegas. He graduated from Las Vegas High School and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, working as a projectionist and for the stagehands union, IATSE 720, along the way. After a period studying at the Southern California College of Optometry and working in San Francisco, a chance visit to the University of Idaho in Moscow set him on a new course, and he earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Idaho Law School in 1986. He was licensed to practice in both Idaho and Nevada.

Mr. Armstrong began his legal career serving as outside counsel for the State Industrial Insurance System in Carson City, Nevada, with Riley M. Beckett's law firm. He then moved to Elko County, and in the spring of 1988 partnered with Elko native Eric Easterly to open the Easterly and Armstrong law practice in Elko, Nevada, a firm that grew to include branches in Reno and Las Vegas. The practice evolved over the years with several partners, and Mr. Armstrong ultimately retired from Armstrong and Kidwell. He also helped establish Armstrong and Kirkendall with his good friend Larry Kirkendall in Boise, Idaho.

Remembered as a genuinely remarkable person whose intellect, warmth, and sharp wit made him a cherished friend, Mr. Armstrong had a rare ability to listen and connect, making everyone he met feel valued and understood. He retired in 2009 and spent his later years traveling the world with his wife, Dyann, and nurturing the many friendships he built across a lifetime. He passed away on October 19, 2024, at his home in Washington state at the age of 70.
