Salvatore C. Gugino

Salvatore Charles Gugino - known widely as "Sal" - was a longtime Las Vegas attorney whose career spanned more than four decades. A product of the community he served, he graduated from Clark High School in 1967 and worked his way through the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, earning his degree in 1973. After teaching briefly at Western High School, he set his sights on the law, working odd jobs to pay his tuition, and graduated from McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento in 1981 before embarking on his career as an attorney specializing in corporate law.

Over the years, Mr. Gugino practiced with a number of prominent Las Vegas firms, including McDonald Carano; Rawlings, Olson & Cannon; and Kolesar & Leatham, and served as Vice President and Assistant General Counsel at Boyd Gaming Corporation. He later concentrated his practice on alternative dispute resolution, providing arbitration, mediation, and fact-finding services through his own firm. He was appointed a Short Trial Judge for the Eighth Judicial District Court in Clark County in 2005 and a Settlement Judge for the Nevada Supreme Court in 2008, and he served for more than twelve years as a member and chairman of the State of Nevada Local Government Employee-Management Relations Board.

Mr. Gugino was an active and beloved figure in the local bar. He served on the Board of Directors of the Clark County Bar Association before becoming its President in 1996, and for several years he acted as Master of Ceremonies for the association's 40 Year Club events. Known for his sharp wit and warmth, he was a contributing editor of the bar journal Communiqué, where he wrote the popular humor column "Ask Mr. Lawyer" for many years. He is remembered by colleagues as a charismatic, accomplished, and generous member of the Nevada legal community.
