Scott A. Martin

Scott Alfred Martin was born in 1946 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He graduated from Glendora High School in California in 1964 and went on to earn his bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of California, Riverside in 1968, having also spent a year at UCLA. After enlisting in the U.S. Army Reserve and serving four years, he moved to San Francisco in 1970 to attend the University of California, Hastings College of the Law - now UC Law San Francisco - where he earned his J.D. in 1973.

Scott devoted more than five decades to the practice of law. He was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1973 and to the State Bar of Nevada in 1997, and practiced with several firms throughout Southern California over the course of his career. At the time of his death he was Of Counsel with Koeller, Nebeker, Carlson, and Haluck LLP. Known for a legendary work ethic and a deep passion for justice, he remained active in the courtroom throughout his career; his final trial, in October 2024, ended with a unanimous jury verdict in his favor for the County of Orange.

Widely recognized by his peers for a distinguished trial career, Scott was a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) and had several published decisions to his name, including as Amicus Curiae before the California Supreme Court. He shared his knowledge as an instructor for California Continuing Education of the Bar and was admitted to the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States. Scott A. Martin passed away on February 20, 2025.
