Spencer Charles Martinez

Spencer Charles Martinez graduated with honors from the University of California, Davis, earning a degree in agricultural economics in 1996. A proud Aggie, he grew up with opera and the theater and took part in student theatrical productions during his years at UC Davis. He went on to earn his law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.

Mr. Martinez built his career as a skilled trial attorney, practicing in business and commercial litigation. He was admitted to the State Bar of Nevada in 2008, and in 2011 he was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court alongside his two brothers, who are also attorneys. Colleagues remembered him as a leader and a fighter in the courtroom, as well as a teacher to the newer attorneys and summer interns who worked with him.

Those who knew and worked with him recalled his wit, kindness, charm, intelligence, and enthusiasm for all that life offered, and described him as a true Renaissance man. In his memory, his family established the Spencer Charles Martinez Memorial Fund at UC Davis to support theater students. He died on May 7, 2018, at the age of 44.
