Terrance P. Marren

Terrance P. "Terry" Marren, a longtime Southern Nevada attorney and jurist, was born in Sheepshead Bay, New York, and made his life in the Las Vegas area after moving there in 1970. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and went on to attend California Western School of Law, where he was named the outstanding first-year law student in 1975 before completing his legal education in 1977. His service to the country preceded his legal career - he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the 101st Airborne Division as a combat medic during the Vietnam War, for which he received the Purple Heart.

Mr. Marren began his legal career as a law clerk for the Nevada Supreme Court and served as legal advisor to Governor Mike O'Callaghan. He subsequently held a series of public legal posts, including chief counsel to the Welfare Division, deputy attorney general, and deputy city attorney for North Las Vegas. He became Nevada's first domestic relations referee for the Eighth Judicial District Court, and in 1992 he was elected by the citizens of Southern Nevada as one of three judges of the newly created Family Court, which began its work in 1993. He later served as city attorney for Mesquite, Nevada.

Beyond his work in the courts, Mr. Marren was active in his community. He was a founder of the Southern Nevada Domestic Violence Task Force and lent his time to organizations serving young people and those in need, including the Boys and Girls Club, the Boy Scouts, the Sunrise Children's Hospital Foundation, and Goodwill Industries.
