Ulrich Walter Smith

Ulrich Walter Smith was admitted to the State Bar of Nevada in 1984 and built his legal career in Las Vegas, where he served over the years as both a prosecutor and a criminal defense attorney. For many in the Clark County legal community, he became a familiar presence in the courthouse, and District Attorney Steve Wolfson later remembered him as "a nice man" who was "a fixture in the courthouse."

Colleagues recalled Smith's dedication to public service, noting that he had "a real heart for being a prosecutor." In 1994, he sought elected office, running for Clark County district attorney against Stewart Bell, though he was not successful in that campaign. He also maintained his own private practice in Las Vegas, operating as Ulrich W. Smith & Associates.

Ulrich Walter Smith died on May 2, 2019, in Somerset, California. He is remembered by those who worked alongside him during his decades of practice in Nevada's courts.
