Virgil H. Wedge

Virgil Henry Wedge was born in the mining town of Pioche, Nevada, on June 24, 1912. He attended Brigham Young University, where he was elected student body president in his senior year and from which he graduated in 1936, and he went on to earn his law degree from George Washington University Law School in 1940. Following his graduation, he returned to Nevada and created the law firm of McCarran & Wedge with Senator Pat McCarran, beginning a distinguished legal career in his home state.

During World War II, Virgil Wedge served with the FBI, and upon returning to Nevada in 1946 he resumed his practice as an attorney. He served as Reno City Attorney from 1947 to 1951. Over the course of his career he became a member of the firm known as Woodburn and Wedge, from which he retired as Senior Partner. His clients included prosperous corporations, prominent individuals and colorful characters in Nevada's history.

Among his many professional and civic roles, Wedge served as President of the Washoe County Bar Association, Chairman of the Northern Nevada Federal Judicial Merit Advisory Commission, and Director of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. His contributions were recognized publicly, with Governor Bob Miller and Reno Mayor Pete Sferrazza each proclaiming days in his honor. Virgil Henry Wedge died on March 4, 2000.
