W. Leslie Sully

W. Leslie Sully Jr. was a prominent Nevada attorney whose distinguished legal career spanned some 37 years. Born September 14, 1949, in Tuxedo, New York, to W. Leslie Sully Sr. and Emily Winslow Sully, he was raised in Cambridge, Maryland, and graduated from high school there in 1967. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Montevallo in Alabama in 1971, earned his J.D. at Cumberland School of Law in 1974, and went on to achieve a prestigious LL.M. degree in taxation from New York University in 1976.

Les began his career clerking for the late Judge Howard Babcock in Las Vegas. Over the course of his practice he worked in - and was a founding partner of - several local law firms, and for his final 18 years he was a partner in the firm of Leavitt, Sully & Rivers. Throughout his career he served as a trusted advisor to many of southern Nevada's most successful and established entrepreneurs, businesses, and families, and he was known for his impeccable integrity and his character as a perfect gentleman.

Beyond his professional life, Les was devoted to his community and was instrumental in the construction of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, chairing its building committee. He was a life-long fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers, a passionate gardener, and a collector of expansive libraries of music and literature. He passed away April 3, 2013, following a courageous ten-month battle with pancreatic cancer, and is remembered for a humor and example that endure among all who knew him.
