Waldo De Castroverde

Waldo De Castroverde, a longtime Nevada attorney, was born January 15, 1941, in Havana, Cuba. As a young man he served as a paratrooper during the 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion, and was elected by his fellow fighters to the commission that negotiated with the Kennedy administration for the release of the captives. He was imprisoned in Cuba for some 20 months before being released in December 1962. He moved to Nevada in 1978 and settled in Reno, where he pursued his legal education in the evenings while working full time and raising four children.

Mr. De Castroverde earned a bachelor's degree in Spanish and political science and went on to graduate from law school, being admitted to the State Bar of Nevada on December 31, 1987. He opened a small law firm in Reno in 1990 and later relocated to Las Vegas, where he built a practice devoted to serving the city's Hispanic community, with a focus on immigration law. In time he was joined by two of his sons, Alex and Orlando, both attorneys, and together they established the De Castroverde Law Group.

Beyond his legal career, Mr. De Castroverde was a published author, writing two Spanish-language books - 'Que La Patria Se Sienta Orgullosa: Memorias De Una Lucha sin Fin' and 'El Circulo De La Muerte.' He was remembered by his family for his large heart and his lifelong commitment to service. He passed away on November 8, 2014, at the age of 73.
